The guy who knows about computers is the last person you want to have creating documentation for people who don’t understand computers.
Adam Osborne
I respectfully disagree. The guy that knows about computers AND can create effective documentation about technology for people who don’t understand technology is the person you want creating that documentation. I believe I am that guy.
It’s been my experience that very few people even like doing documentation. I enjoy writing! Over the years I’ve put together course outlines, training packages, inline documentation, online documentation…well…all sorts of writing!
Staff Writer – MakeUseOf.com
This was a very rewarding experience! For so long, I’ve wanted to write for the public and I had that opportunity by writing for one of the Internet’s premier technology blogs. Some of my articles made the front page of Digg and have been referenced by Lifehacker.com, AskTheAdmin.com and many other websites. My writing style is pretty much the exact same as how speak, so there’s some more insight into who I am. Here are some of the ninety articles I wrote that I’m particularly proud of:
- How The Internet Works [Technology Explained]
- Really Delete Your Browsing History – wipe MRU & index.dat files
- Check Your IDE Transfer Mode To Make Your PC Faster
- How Does a Router Work? [Technology Explained]
I had to leave writing for MakeUseOf.com due to time restraints. I was writing up to 10 articles a month for them as well as working full time in instrumentation. They were great people to work for, and have since asked me if I could come back.
CanadaPrepared.com is a personal project. I use it as a tool to try to bring like-minded people together. People that believe that life doesn’t have to be hectic, like simplicity and enjoying doing things that can prepare them for tomorrow are the target audience. Primarily, the content is in audio podcast format without any real scripting. I’ll do my research and then from there it’s like we’re sitting at the coffee table with my rambling on.
The site reaches about 8,000 unique visitors a month with about 100 regular subscribers. Eventually, I’ll be putting more time into this site as it incorporates all the things I love – writing, teaching, technology, politics and community.
